ABOUT US

The Rio Arriba Adult Literacy Program (RAALP) offers free, one-to-one adult literacy tutoring. for students in need of both Basic Literacy and English as a Second Language support.

About 35% of Rio Arriba County residents lack basic literacy skills, and about the same speak only limited English. Adult literacy students often make big changes in their lives as their reading, writing, or English-comprehension skills improve. They advance in employment, go back to school, register to vote, or become more involved in their children’s education.

80% of students active in the RAALP program for 6+ months show improvement toward their goals. Our certified tutors work with students as they attain their personal goals and higher reading levels. Student-tutor pairs meet in public places for two hours, usually one-two times per week, creating a fun and inviting atmosphere for learning.
